SURPRISE, Ariz.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team improved to 4-0 for the first time since the fall of 2013 as they claimed a 4-0 road win over the Ottawa University-Arizona Spirit on Friday afternoon at the Surprise Tennis Center.
The Mavericks claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 wins and then claimed three singles victories in straight sets while giving up just six total games in those matches to seize the victory in the match which was played to clinch.
The Mavericks were also leading three of the four matches that went unfinished.
In doubles,
Carolena Campos and
Lauren Thomas teamed for a 6-0 win over Saskia Wells and Maya Salamon in the second flight while
Halle Romero and
Alexi Klabunde were just as dominant in their No. 3 victory over Veronica Grimes and Mitzy Rangel.
In singles, Thomas claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Salamon at No. 5 while Romero was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Grimes in the fourth flight. Campos claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wells in the No. 3 position.

Giulia Leali, ranked sixth in the Oracle/ITA NAIA West Region singles rankings was the only Spirit player to win a set, winning the first over CMU's
Issy Coman in the No. 1 singles flight before that match was left unfinished.
Coman and Waldburger were leading Leali and Gallardo, 5-3 in the No. 1 doubles match.
The Mavericks will remain in Surprise for a Saturday morning (9 a.m.) neutral site encounter with NCAA Division II rival Western New Mexico before traveling to nearby Glendale for a 4 p.m. match at Arizona Christian.
