Men's Hoops Dominant in Home Debut

Baskin has career night, records second-straight double-double.

Grand Junction, Colo.  – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team secured their fourth straight win behind a 94-56 decision over Our Lady of the Lake, Friday in Brownson Arena on night one of the Holiday Inn – Airport Thanksgiving Classic.

The Mavericks finished the night with a 61.7 clip from the floor, and out boarded their opponent 41-25. The team also collected a season high nine blocks, while dishing out 22 assists on offense.

Trevor Baskin put together his second straight double-double behind a 20-point, 10-rebound performance. His five blocks on the also mark a career high for the redshirt freshman, as he led all scorers and five Mavs who tallied double-digits in the victory.

Jared Small (16), Mac Riniker (13), Reece Johnson (11), and Owen Koonce (10) were the other Mavs who contributed double-figures.

Colorado Mesa drew first blood on a three-pointer from Johnson, but it would be a back-and-forth affair through 12-minutes of play, before the

Mavs sparked a 15-0 run to take a 30-19 lead. It would go up by as many as 17, going into the break with a 14-point lead.
The Mavs shot an efficient 72.7 percent from the floor in the opening period, draining four from beyond the arc.

It continued to be all CMU in the following half as they quickly built their lead into the 20s.

Highlighted by a series of alley oops on one end and blocked shots on the other, the Mavs outscored the Saints 51-27 in the second half, hitting over 50-percent of their shots.

The team will turnaround and play Simon Fraser, Saturday night on day two of the classic. SFU defeated Western Colorado in the midday game, 73-63. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
