Threatt Scores Career High in Mavericks Win over St. Edward's

Dallas, Texas -- Behind a career high 26-points from Blaise Threatt, the Colorado Mesa Mavericks capped of their trip to Dallas with an 84-77 win over St. Edwards on day two of the D2 Conference Challenge.

In a game that saw 13 lead changes and eight tied scores, and nearly identical stats across the board, the biggest difference was the Mavs 20 free throws, to St. Edward's 14. Each team tallied 27 baskets, Colorado Mesa with just one more three-pointer on the day and edged out the Hilltoppers, 30-28 in rebounds.

Threatt led all scorers, and was one of four Mavericks to finish in double-figures. Jared Small put together a double-double performance with 15-points and 10-rebounds. Mac Riniker followed up with 13-points and 8 rebounds, Georgie Dancer rounding out the four top-scorers with 11 points to go along with a pair of blocks and five steals.

It was a back and forth affair throughout the first period, the Hilltoppers taking small leads only to have the Mavs close that gap in the following possessions.

With under a minute left to play, the Mavs held a one-point advantage after free throws from Reece Johnson. However, the Hilltoppers drained a three-pointer on the opposite end to take a 39-37 lead heading into the break.

It was around the 12-minute mark when CMU took over the lead and built it up to as many as 13.

That lead would hold strong for the remainder of the game, as the closed out going 6-for-6 at the foul line.

The team will travel back in-state and head to Gunnison next weekend for the Comfort Inn Classic at Western Colorado. They will take on Washington Adventist, Friday Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. followed by University of the Southwest on Saturday (Nov. 20) at 5 p.m.
