Lakewood, Colo. — the Colorado Mesa men's basketball closed out their road trip to the front range with a 78-67 win over the Colorado Christian Cougars Saturday night.
The win makes it their ninth straight win for the Mavs, and keeps their overall and road record flawless.
Georgie Dancer and
Ethan Menzies combined for 34-points on the night. Menzies was just shy of his second straight double-double shooting 6-for-10 from the field, and 5-for-6 in free throws, scoring 17-points along with 9-rebounds.
Mac Riniker chipped in another 13-points, connecting from deep on three different occasions.
Play opened with a couple of turnovers from both teams, before
Georgie Dancer out the first points one the board two and half minutes in. CMU would go up by six before CCU got a shot to fall.
The Cougars would trail for most of the half, up until the 8:03 when the conference's leading scorer drained a 3-pointer to tie things up at 17.
A last second 3-pointer from CCU put the score at 38-33 at the half.
The Cougars would score the first basket of the second half, but
Mac Riniker would answer with back-to-back 3-pointers, along with a layup to give his team a 46-35 edge.
Just as CCU would start to close in, the Maverick offense would increase their lead and start to create distance.
Nearly up by double digits, CMU closed out the night going 6-for-6 in free throws for the final 78-67 score.
The conference's leading scorer was held to 14-points tonight, finishing behind teammate Andy Stafford who led all scorers with 20-points.
The team will head back west a prepare for top-10 setup and clash of the unbeaten next weekend against Colorado Mines on Friday, Jan. 22 in Brownson Arena. The Mavs will host the Regis Rangers that same weekend.
