Men's Basketball Sweep Series over MSU Denver

Denver, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team captured their eighth straight win and swept the season series over MSU Denver Friday in Auraria Events Center with a 72-57 win.

The Mavs held the Roadrunners to 31.7 percent from the floor, and 20.0 percent from deep, while they shot 46.2 percent and sank 10, 3-pointers.

Ethan Menzies notched his first double-double of the season on 13-point and 10-rebound performance, The sophomore finished 4-for-9 from the floor, 5-for-6 in free throws, assisted on a pair of baskets and also accounted for two of the team's four steals.

Georgie Dancer put up his second highest point total this season 17. He finished with three, 3-pointers and did not miss any of his free throws. Reece Johnson also made it his sixth game in double-figures with 12-points.

MSUD jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before David Rico ended the scoring drought with a three-pointer to put the team on the board. After another three-pointer by Reece Johnson, the Mavs offense caught spark, and took the lead going up by six. Since taking the lead around the 13-minute mark, the Mavs would not let up and take a 38-27 edge at the half.

Coming out of the break, the Mavericks offense picked up right where they left off scoring back-to-back 3-pointers. Keeping their distance for most of the half, the Roadrunners would get back within single digits, but were short lived.

MSUD managed to get a last second layup in before the final buzzer but was not enough to close the 15-point deficit.

The team will close out the road trip against Colorado Christian tomorrow night in Lakewood. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m..
