Mavericks picked eighth, ninth in RMAC XC polls

Conference championship moved to Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Maverick women were picked eighth while the men have been picked ninth in the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Polls, which were announced by the conference on Thursday.

The Maverick women received 93 points in the polling of 13 conference coaches.  The CMU men had 84 points.

In 2019, the Maverick women finished ninth while the men took tenth at the RMAC Championships, which the Mavericks hosted at Tiara Rado Golf Course.

The Colorado School of Mines, which won the 2019 NCAA Division II and RMAC titles, edged the men's poll with 161 points and received nine first place votes.  Adams State was second with 159 points and four first place votes.

The Adams State women, who also won national and conference titles in 2019, took the top spot in the women's poll with 12 first place votes and 168 points.  Mines was picked second with 148 points and received the remaining first place vote.

Due to COVID-19 related issues, each institution has the option to opt out of the season due to Covid-19. As of this release, CSU Pueblo and Regis have made that decision and those teams were not included in the poll.

In other and related news, the RMAC has moved the site of the conference championships to Colorado Springs and Monument Valley Park.  That meet, which was originally slated for Golden, will be held on Oct. 24.

The NCAA has already canceled the Division II national and regional championships.

The Mavericks are slated to begin the season on Sept. 19 at Western Colorado.  The rest of the schedule is yet to be determined.
