Mavericks Pick Up Road Win over Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Senior Michael Skinner's three-pointer with 58 seconds to play gave the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team the lead for good in a 94-91 win over Adams State on Saturday evening in Plachy Hall.

With the Maverick trailing 89-88 to the Grizzlies, Tommy Nuno was backing down his defender and swung a pass to Skinner on the wing where he buried a three to give the Mavericks a 91-89 lead.

A Nuno basket and a Skinner free-throw late iced the game for Colorado Mesa who needed the win to keep pace with South Dakota Mines who were victorious over Colorado School of Mines tonight. The win keeps the Mavericks one game up for the fourth and final home playoff spot.

Ethan Menzies tied for the game-high with 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field. Menzies tied with Skinner for the team-high with eight rebounds.

Nuno finished with 18 points and 10 assists while Jared Small added 12 to round out the Mavericks in double figures.

Rickey Norris led Adams State with 25 points and 11 rebounds to complete the double double.

Both teams shot a high percentage from the floor with the Mavericks edging the Grizzlies 54.4 percent to 53.2 percent. Colorado Mesa had a huge points in the paint advantage 56-36 but lost the rebounding margin 30-28.

The Mavericks will head to Gunnison to close out the regular season with a road matchup with Western Colorado on Friday evening.
