No. 17 Mavericks Open Up RMAC Play with Dominating 21-3 Win Over Adams

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks (4-0) began Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 21-3 win over the Adams State Grizzlies in their home opener Friday night at Walker Field.

13 different Mavericks recorded goals in tonight's game as the Mavericks were led by James Booth who recorded seven points which included two goals and five assists. His five assists tonight against the Grizzlies tied a career high for the graduate transfer from Shirley, N.Y.

As the Mavericks main faceoff guy freshman Cole Emmanuel won 15-of-15 while freshman Colin Seedorf was 6-of-8. Emmanuel finished with 11 ground balls.

Remi Reeves recorded the win in the net for the Mavs making two saves and only allowing one goal while Christian Cherry checked in for the second half and recorded a season high nine saves.

The Mavericks scored three consecutive goals to being the game before Adams State recorded a goal with 10:41 remaining in the first quarter. From then on, the Mavericks scored 14 unanswered goals reaching a 17-1 score with under three minutes to play in the third quarter. The Grizzlies scored their second goal of the game with less than a minute to play in the quarter making the score 17-2 entering the final quarter.

In that span of 14 unanswered goals Seedorf recorded his first goal of the season after winning a faceoff and AJ Switzer recorded back-to-back goals.

The Mavericks surrendered just one man up goal to the Grizzlies in the final quarter, but outscored them 4-1 in the final 15 minutes. Freshman Kyle Rudee and freshman Jackson Lyon recorded the final goals of the game which were both their first career goals.

The Mavericks were 18-of-19 on clears and grabbed a season high 53 ground balls. Asa team the Mavs recorded a season high 33 points which included 21 goals and 12 assists.

The Mavericks will continue RMAC play on Sunday against CSU-Pueblo at noon on Walker Field. CSU-Pueblo lost to Westminster 23-6 Friday night in Salt Lake City, Utah.
