GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior
Jared Small's 22 points paced Colorado Mesa to a 72-69 win over Regis on Saturday evening in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Brownson Arena.
Small shot 7-for-11 from the field and was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc with all four makes coming in the first half. He added five rebounds but no rebound was bigger than the one he secured with a little over four seconds left.
Regis had the ball down by just one point at 70-69, Christian Little attempted a short jump shot but was denied by
Ethan Menzies with Small garnering the rebound and was fouled with just .7 left in the game.
Small buried the two free three throws and the last second attempt by Regis was denied.
Colorado Mesa shot 50 percent from the field including 54.5 percent from beyond the arc. They entered the weekend ranked No. 5 nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 41.9 percent and shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) on the weekend.
Senior
Tommy Nuno finished with 13 points and three assists while
Ethan Richardson had 11 points and four rebounds.
This was the final regular season home game for the three seniors for Colorado Mesa in Nuno,
Jess Spivey and
Michael Skinner.
With the win, coupled with the UCCS loss tonight, Colorado Mesa sits in a tie for fourth-place with South Dakota Mines.
The Mavericks will be on the road for the final three games of the regular season. The road trip begins next week with matchups Adams State and Fort Lewis.
