GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team led by as many as 43 points in the second half and ran away with a 90-64 win over the Colorado Christian on Friday night in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks led 77-34 with 9:20 left to play in the game after a
Jordan Windley layin. They led for all but 17 seconds of the game when it was tied.
Colorado Mesa limited the Cougars to 40 percent shooting from the field and just five made three-pointers while shooting 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Junior
Ethan Richardson, who made his first start of the season, finished with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds in almost 22 minutes of action on the floor. He was 8-for-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
Richardson paired with
Ethan Menzies in the low-block had combined to limit reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Spencer Hoffman to just five points and eight rebounds. He came in averaging 15 points per game and put up 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Adams State last week.
Jared Small finished with 15 points, burying all three of his three-point attempts while Menzies had ten on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor.
Senior
Michael Skinner finished with 11 points, all of them coming in the first half, and added five assists.
Every Maverick who played in the game tonight registered at least five minutes of game action.
Colorado Christian's Elijah Oliver scored a team-high 18 points.
With the win, the Mavericks are now in a three-way tie for the fourth spot in the conference standings with UCCS and South Dakota Mines. All have matching 11-7 conference records.
Colorado Mesa will play their final regular season home game on Saturday when they take on Regis at 7:30pm. The Rangers fell 87-71 to Western Colorado tonight in Gunnison.
