Mavericks Dominate Shorter University 17-3 and Improve to 3-0

ROME, Ga. -  The Colorado Mesa Maverick men's lacrosse team wrapped up their first trip of the season with a dominating 17-3 win over Shorter University (0-2) Monday afternooon at Ben Brady field to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Mavericks were led by freshman AJ Switzer and Carson Schwark who tied for a game high three goals. Switzer, the Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. native added two assists to his career high three goals to reach a career high five points. As a starter Schwark recorded a season best four points and tied his season high in goals. 

Shorter University took a 2-0 lead, both recorded by Will Millwood, in the opening minutes of the game but were answered by seven consecutive goals from the Mavericks. The Hawks record their final goal of the game with 6:31 remaining in the second quarter and the Mavericks closed the game on a 10-0 run to reach a 17-3 lead by the final buzzer.

As the Mavericks main faceoff guy Colin Seedorf won 17-of-22 faceoffs and grabbed 17 ground balls which was a career high for the freshman from Mission Viejo, Calif. The Mavs went against three different players in faceoffs who only won a combined 5-of-23. Cole Emmanuel was perfect 1-of-1 on his faceoffs.

Colorado Mesa was nearly perfect on clears after recorded 34-of-36. The team was a perfect 9-of-9 in both the opening and third quarter.

Defensively Brian Buckner led the team with four caused turnovers and picked up two ground balls.

The Mavericks will return home and open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games Feb 21 and Feb 23 on Walker Field. On Friday Feb 21 the Mavericks will take on Adams State at 6 pm and on Sunday Feb 23 the Mavericks will play CSU-Pueblo at noon.
