LAKEWOOD, Colo. –
Kolton Peterson nailed a career-high eight three-pointers to lead the Mavericks to a 90-70 win over Colorado Christian on Saturday evening in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The win snaps a six-game road losing streak for Colorado Mesa as they will now head home for a four game home stand.
Peterson scored a career-high 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting from beyond the three-point line just one night after not attempting a shot. The junior is shooting over 50 percent from beyond the arc this year and has moved into sixth on the all-time three-point makes list.
Colorado Mesa (13-8, 9-6 RMAC) had a balanced scoring effort as Peterson and just two others finished in double digit scoring.
Jared Small finished with 13 points while
Tommy Nuno had 12. Of the 12 players that saw action on the floor, 11 finished with at least a point.
The Mavericks shot 64.8 percent from the field and limited the Cougars to 39.7 percent shooting. They hit on 14-of-22 three-point attempts with five different players making a three-pointer.
Colorado Mesa led for all but 13 seconds of the game and led by as many as 23 points at 87-64 with just 1:24 left in the matchup.
The win was the first road win since December 6 when they defeated UCCS, 75-72, in their first true road game of the year.
The Mavericks will return home for a four-game home stand including the final regular season home game of the regular season. Up first will be Westminster next Friday at 7:30pm for the Winter White Out sponsored by Coca Cola. The first 700 fans will receive a White Out T-Shirt.
