Mavericks Rain Threes over Skyhawks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa was raining threes in Brownson Arena on Saturday as the Mavericks downed RMAC rival Fort Lewis 105-91 to snap a five-game losing streak against the Skyhawks.

The Mavericks (12-5, 8-3 RMAC) recorded what is believed to be two school records in the win. They shot a school record 78.3 percent from the three-point line, making 18-for-23 from the stripe, another school record.

Juniors Georgie Dancer and Jared Small were on fire from three with each going a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the stripe. Dancer finished with 21 points and handed out nine assists while Small finished with a team-high 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field.

Senior Tommy Nuno was on triple double watch for a majority of the second half. The Half Moon Bay, Calif. native finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and pulled down seven rebounds. He was 10-for-15 from the floor and 1-for-2 from three.

Colorado Mesa trailed by three at halftime, 48-45 and tied it up at 65-65 with 11:32 to play in the game. The Mavericks then went on a 13-2 run in just under three minutes to grab the lead for good at 78-67.

Skyhawk Riley Farris led all scorers with 30 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

The Mavericks have now won 11 straight in Brownson Arena last season and is the longest home winning streak since they won 13 in a row from January 7, 2012 to January 25, 2013 that ended in a 64-52 loss to then top-ranked MSU Denver.

Colorado Mesa is now in sole possession of third place in the RMAC at 8-3, just one game behind Dixie State and Black Hills State.

The Mavericks will now embark on a four-game road swing that begins next weekend at Dixie State in St. George on Friday.
