Men's Basketball Makes it 10 in a Row at Home

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Michael Skinner and Ethan Menzies registered career-highs to lead the Colorado Mesa men's basketball team to an 88-76 win over the Adams State Grizzlies on Friday evening in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
 
Skinner recorded a monster double double, finishing with a game-high 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in the win. The Thornton native was 6-for-9 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line all while pulling down 13 defensive rebounds and three on the offensive end.
 
The senior added six assists, three steals and blocked a pair of shots to fill the stat sheet.
 
Not to be outdone, freshman Ethan Menzies enjoyed his best night as a Maverick. Menzies scored a career-high 18 points and pulled down five rebounds. He also set career-highs in field goal attempts and makes as he went 9-for-11 from the field.
 
Colorado Mesa (11-5, 7-3 RMAC) fell behind by seven with 8:13 to play in the first half but got the score back to even at 40-40 heading into the halftime break.
 
The Mavericks used a 15-2 run to open the second half and secure the lead for good. They led by as many as 17 with 8:31 to play in the game following a Jess Spivey three-pointer to make it 69-52.
 
The win at home makes it 10 in a row in Brownson Arena for the Mavericks dating back to last season. The 10 game win streak matches the 2015-16 Mavericks who also won 10 in a row.
 
Colorado Mesa will host Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Western Slope rival Fort Lewis tomorrow with tip scheduled for 7:30pm. Fort Lewis defeated Western Colorado on Friday evening 88-74 in Gunnison.
