COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's swimming & diving moved up seven spots to a program-best matching sixth in the latest TYR/CSCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, which was released by the coaching organization on Thursday morning. The Maverick women also hung on to a top-10 national ranking and are now 10
th.
The Maverick men had been ranked 13
th in the previous edition of the poll, which had been released on Nov. 12. They are now receiving 120 points in the polling of six member coaches, who aim to measure the nation's top teams in head-to-head dual meet competition.
Prior to Thursday, the Maverick men had last been ranked this high on Dec. 19, 2017, when they were also ranked sixth.
Indianapolis took over the top spot in Thursday's poll with a maximum 150 points as former No. 1 UC-San Diego moved down to fifth. Drury, defending national champions Queens (N.C.) and Delta State are sandwiched in between.
On the women's side, the Mavericks dropped one spot in the poll but stayed in the top 10 with 85 points. UC-San Diego took over the top spot with 148 points ahead of former No. 1 and defending national champion Queens (N.C.), which is now second with 144.
The Mavericks are the top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference squad in both polls although they do have some company further down the poll. The Colorado School of Mines men are now 18
th after being ranked 23
rd in November. Associate member Oklahoma Baptist has also five points to sit in the "also receiving votes" category and just outside the top 25.
Meanwhile, the Dixie State women and Mines women are now ranked 18
th and 19
th, respectively. Neither had been ranked in November.
The Maverick women will conclude the dual meet portion of their schedule on Saturday when they host Western Colorado University at noon. The Maverick men have completed their official dual schedule but will join their female counterparts in hosting the RMAC Championships from Feb. 12-15.
