GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – After going scoreless for 75 minutes junior Niall Shaffery headed in the lone goal of the game to give the Mavericks their first conference win and improve to 3-1-1 and 1-0-1 in conference play. This is the California natives first goal of the year and fifth of his career.
The Mavericks took 14 shots and were led by Connor Lowdermilk and Ramses Atahualpa who each recorded three. As a reserve Ethan Anderson also took three shots.
CSUP took 17 shots and forced Brendan Brown to recorded six saves which is a career high for the senior from Cambrudge, UK.
Shaffery recorded his game winning goal off a cross pass from Atahualpa that found Shaffery on the right side of the goal where he flew in and headed the ball past the goal keeper in the upper right corner.
Following this goal CSUP took two more shots to try and even the score but Brown had his hands on each attempt to keep the Thunderwovles scoreless and record the Mavericks first shutout of the season.

The Mavericks will travel to MSU-Denver and Colorado Christian University next weekend. They will first see the Roadrunners in Denver at 3 pm on Friday and then face CCU on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
