CMU faced a tough UNC Bears team in Greeley on Saturday. UNC put up an early lead against a CMU team that had not played a game together yet this year. Last weekend, CMU's game scheduled against Idaho State University was cancelled after ISU informed CMU they did not have the required documentation completed with the school or with USA Rugby. The cancellation was considered a forfeit win for the Mavericks, but left the team without valuable game time experience. UNC took full advantage of this fact and capitalized on CMU's inexperience. Moments of greatness occurred on both the Maverick's defense and offense, but small mistakes turned into scoring plays for the opposition. The Mavericks continued to struggle throughout the remainder of the game, but not without the Bears noticing their effort. At the end of the match, UNC awarded Maverick captain and 8 man Zo Santos as the "Man of the Match" for his leadership in play and in sportsmanship.
The Mavericks will travel to Weber State University in Ogden, UT next weekend.
