NAMPA, Idaho – The Mavericks picked up their first road win of the 2019 season in a 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene University Saturday morning to improve to 2-1-0 on the season. The Mavericks recorded three consecutive goals before allowing a Nighthawk's goal in the 79th minute.
Ramses Atahualpa assisted each of the Mavericks three goals and led the team in points with three.
The Mavericks outshot the Nighthawks by one and recorded nine total shots for the game. Five of those shots were on target while the Maverick defense limited NNU to just three shots on goals.
Senior goalkeeper Brenden Brown played all 90 minutes in the net and finished the game with two saves.
Lawan Abary recorded the opening goal of the game in the 23rd minute and was then followed by defender Noah Rosenberg who headed the ball in the back of the net off a Maverick corner kick in the 34th minute for the first goal of his Maverick career.
This gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead at the half.
In the 69th minute Alec Fronapfel recorded the Mavericks third goal. The freshmen from Fort Collins, Colo. now has recorded goals in back-to-back games.
The Mavericks were close to recording their first shutout of the season before NNU scored late in the game during the 79th minute.

The Mavericks will open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend against Fort Lewis College and CSU-Pueblo. On Friday September 20th the Mavericks will take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis at 7 pm on Walker Field. Two days later they will face CSU-Pueblo at 1:30 pm on September 22nd.
