Mavericks Push Past UCCS to Advance in RMAC Tournament

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa put relentless pressure on the UCCS Mountain Lions in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at Suplizio Field. The Mavericks scored runs in six of the eight innings they batted in during an 8-4 win over the Mountain Lions.
 
Sophomore Caleb Farmer put the Mavericks up in the first inning on a two-run home run to left field. The home run was Farmer's sixth of the season and gave Colorado Mesa a 2-0 lead.
 
The next inning Spencer Bramwell laced a single to right field, scoring Chase Hamilton on the play to put the Mavericks up 3-0.
 
Farmer safety squeezed home a run in the bottom of the third inning that scored Hunter Douglas to make it 4-0.
 
Farmer, a San Jacinto, Calif. native, finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs driven in.
 
In the fourth inning, Johnny Carr hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot to left center field. Later in the inning, Hunter Douglas laced a double to left field that scored Josh Shapiro from first base after a fielding error by the leftfielder on the play. CMU led 6-0 after four innings.
 
Bramwell helped the Mavs tally a single run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Hamilton putting Colorado Mesa up 7-0.
 
Bramwell wasn't done in the game as led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to right center. It was the sophomore backstop's seventh home run of the season and made it 8-2 at the time.
 
The San Clemente, Calif. product finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and three runs driven in.
 
RMAC Pitcher of the Year Garrett Hutson picked up the win on the mound after throwing six innings. Hutson (10-1) allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out five in 95 pitches. Hutson had only three 1-2-3 innings on the day with one coming in the first inning
 
Will Dixon earned his 11th win of the season and moved into second on the single season saves list. Dixon faced just two batters, striking out both.
 
Colorado Mesa moves to 43-9 on the season while UCCS' season ends with a 28-24 mark.
 
The Mavericks will play in the winner's bracket final tomorrow at 11am against the winner of tonight's game between Dixie State and MSU Denver.
