Reynolds Pitches Mavericks to Championship Saturday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior right hander Trevin Reynolds pitched seven and two-thirds of brilliant baseball and helped give Colorado Mesa a 3-1 win over Dixie State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference winner's bracket final and moving them into the championship game tomorrow.

Reynolds (4-1) didn't allow a hit until the top of the fourth inning on an infield single to Cade Spurlin. During that stretch, he retired nine batters in a row and finished the game with 10 groundball outs.

The Las Vegas native allowed just one run on four hits, walked three and struck out six batters in 117 pitches. The lone hit that reached the outfield came off the bat of Spurlin in the top of the eighth inning. The other hits were either infield singles or ground balls that made it through the infield.

Reynolds left the game with two outs in the eighth to a much deserved standing ovation from the Maverick fans at Suplizio Field. Closer Will Dixon came into the game and needed just one pitch to work out of the inning.

Dixon pitched a scoreless ninth, delivering two strikeouts in the inning, to earn his 12th save of the season.

The Mavericks scored one run in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI groundout by Caleb Farmer that scored Hunter Douglas from third base on the play. Colorado Mesa led 1-0 all the way until the seventh inning before they got some insurance.

Pinch hitter Conrad Villafuerte led off the inning with an infield single before being replaced by pinch runner Josh Shapiro. Spencer Bramwell followed with a double down the right field line, moving runners to second and third with nobody out.

Chase Hamilton then barreled up a single to left field scoring both runners but was thrown out trying to stretch his single into a double.

Hunter Douglas and Dominic DeMarco were the lone Mavericks with multiple hits.

Colorado Mesa is now 44-9 on the season while Dixie State falls to 35-18 on the year.

The Mavericks move onto Championship Saturday against an opponent yet to be determined. They will play at 1pm at Suplizio Field.
