Kris Mort announced late Sunday evening that Maverick swimming & triathlon coach
Geoff Hanson has resigned his position to take the head coaching position at NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University.
Hanson has served as the Mavericks' head swimming coach for the past three seasons winning three combined Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles, including a men's & women's sweep in 2019. He was named as the RMAC Coach of the Year on both the men's and women's sides in 2019, his fourth and fifth career honors, the last four of which have come in his stint at CMU.
The Mavericks then went on to record 11
th (men) and 16
th (women) place finished as the NCAA Division II National Championships, their highest ever.
As the only head coach in the brief 2-year history of the Maverick triathlon squad, Hanson led the Mavs to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division II portion of the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships in the fall of 2018 after winning the West Regional.
A national search for Hanson's position will begin immediately, Mort noted.
