#1 Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader from Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 1 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a pair of seven-inning games from the MSU Denver Roadrunners in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Regency Athletic Complex.

In game one of the day, Colorado Mesa got an outstanding pitching performance from Andrew Morris and were able to scratch across enough runs for a 4-1 win over the Roadrunners.

Jordan Stubbings put the Mavericks ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning on a solo home run to left field. The home run was the sophomore's eighth of the season and he wasn't done for the day.

In the top of the third, he hit a sac fly that scored Dominic DeMarco to make it 2-0.

Colorado Mesa got a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double from Haydn McGeary and a safety squeeze from Chase Hamilton to make it 4-0.

MSU Denver picked up their one run in the bottom half of the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk.

Morris (3-1) was once again nearly unhittable on the mound. The freshman allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out three in five and two-thirds innings of work.

Senior Will Dixon came in to earn his sixth save of the season. Dixon allowed just one walk and struck out one in an inning and a third.

In the nightcap, Garrett Hutson and Will Dixon combined to limit MSU Denver to just four hits in a 5-2 win for the Mavericks.

Hutson (8-1) pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out six to earn the win.

Dixon came in to pitch the final inning and a third once again to pick up his seventh save.

Colorado Mesa got home runs from Stubbings, his ninth of the season, and Tyler Sandoval in back-to-back innings.

McGeary and DeMarco each hit sacrifice fly's in the game and Hamilton had a RBI single that scored Stubbings for the Maverick's five runs.

The Mavericks have now won nine straight against MSU Denver that dates back to 2017.

With the two wins today, the Mavericks move three games up on second place Colorado School of Mines, who spit their Saturday doubleheader with UCCS, and three and a half games up on now third-place Dixie State.

The two teams will complete the four-game series on Sunday with a single nine-inning game beginning at noon.
