Mavericks Defeat Adams State 10-4

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Mavericks defeated Adams State Friday night by a score of 10-4 and improved to 8-7 on the season. With this win the Mavericks also improved to 3-2 in RMAC play with one more conference game to play which will take place Sunday at CSU-Pueblo.

Joe Wulforst IV led the Mavs with four points which included two goals and two assists while four other Mavericks recorded multiple goals.  Jack Griffins recorded two goals and took a season high 14 shots. Throughout the game the Mavericks took a total of 50 shots.

For the first time this season and just the second time in his career senior Michael Marino was a perfect 18-of-18 in faceoffs. He totaled 10 ground balls on the night.

Freshmen Chase Overton led the Maverick defense with three ground balls and four caused turnovers which broke a new career high for caused turnovers.

The Mavericks opened the game with five straight goals before allowing a Grizzlie goal with under 30 second to play in the first quarter to hold a 5-1 lead at the break. Five different Mavericks scored during that run.

During the second quarter the Mavericks were outscored 2-1 but still held a 6-3 advantage at halftime.

Out of the locker room the Mavericks only allowed one goal and registered five more throughout the next two quarters.

Nick Wilson was the Mavericks' goalkeeper for the entire 60 minutes and recorded six saves. He now has a 3-2 record in the net.

Next Up

The Mavericks will play CSU-Pueblo Sunday at noon in Pueblo, Colo. to concluded the RMAC regular season.
