PUEBLO, Colo. - In the final RMAC regular season game of the season the Mavericks defeated CSU-Pueblo 20-10 on Sunday afternoon and completed the season with a 4-2 RMAC record which was good enough to earn them a No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament.
Senior Jack Griffin led the Mavericks with six points which included a game-high four goals and two assists. Joe Wulforts IV contributed three points (two goals and one assists) while Brandon Wilson totaled four points with three assists and one goal.
Three other Mavericks recorded multiple goals including Beau Lansdown, Kyle O'Brien, and Matt Funkhouser.
Nick Wilson and Christian Cherry split time in the net with Wilson earning the decision win after starting the game. Wilson recorded three saves in the first thirty minutes while Cherry recorded 12 in the next two quarters.
Griffin and O'Brien opened the game with back-to-back goals within the first two minutes before CSUP tied it up at 4-4 with 10:45 remaining in the first quarter. Five minutes later Griffin found the net on a man-up opportunity to take a lead that the Mavericks would never give up.
Funkhouser closed the quarter with his first goal of the game at the 0:36 tick which started a 10-0 run that ended with his second goal of the game at the 5:32 mark in the third quarter. The Mavericks scored two more goals in the third quarter which included a man-up goal from Lansdown and held a 15-5 lead by the end of quarter three.Â
CSUP scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter but the Mavs responded with five straight goals including a man-down goal by Funkhouser which was followed by a man-up goal from Michael Dasch Jr. To close the game the ThunderWolves scored four consecutive goals but ran out of time as the Mavericks were up by ten.

The Mavericks will now prepare for the 2019 Rocky Mountain Tournament which will be held in Salt Lake City on May 3 & 4. The Griffins who earned the No. 1 seed will host the tournament on Dumke Field. Â As the two-seed The Mavericks will take on the No. 3 seeded ThunderWolves in a repeat of Sunday's game. Westminster will face No. 4 seeded Adams State.
The Mavericks game against CSU-Pueblo will be Friday May 3 at 2 pm MST. The winner of that  game will advance to the Championship game on Saturday May 4 at 2 pm MST. For a look at the bracket click the link above.
