Mavericks Split Saturday Doubleheader

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team split a doubleheader on the road against the UCCS Mountain Lions on Saturday at Mountain Lion Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
 
In game one of the doubleheader, Colorado Mesa mustered just eight hits in a 12-3 defeat to UCCS, snapping the Mavericks 11-game winning streak and unbeaten RMAC record.
 
Hunter Douglas, Jordan Stubbings, Spencer Bramwell and Trevin Reynolds all had two hits in the game. Douglas led off the top of the third inning with a solo home run to left field for his team-leading eighth of the season.
 
Stubbings hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, his second home run of the season.
 
In the second game of the twinbill, the Mavericks responded by scoring in four of the seven innings to take the 8-1 road victory.
 
Chase Hamilton finished the game just 1-for-4 but drove in four runs from eighth position in the batting order. He hit a two-run double in the top of the third as a part of the four-run inning for the Mavericks. It was his sixth double of the season.
 
Johnny Carr finished with three hits while freshman Haydn McGeary had two hits.
 
Senior Garrett Hutson earned the win on the mound, pitching the complete game. Hutson (4-0) allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out one in his seven innings of work.
 
Colorado Mesa is now 22-3 on the season and 10-1 in the RMAC while UCCS is 13-12 on the year and 5-6 in the RMAC.
 
The two teams will play the final game of the series tomorrow, a single nine-inning game, at Noon at Mountain Lion Field.
