Big Second Half Leads to Mavericks Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team had a great second half after a slow first half in a 71-49 win over the Western Colorado Mountaineers in the final game of 2019 in Brownson Arena in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mavericks led 13-8 with 13:42 to play in the first half before hitting a cold spell scoring. They went the next 10:03 without scoring until a layup by Ethan Menzies at the 3:39 mark and trailed 28-24 at the break.

Colorado Mesa outscored the Mountaineers 47-21 in the second half and shot 63 percent from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Four Mavericks finished the game in double figures led by Jared Small's 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Kolton Peterson had 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the three point line while Georgie Dancer had 11 points and Clay Verk added 10 points.
