GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team had a great second half after a slow first half in a 71-49 win over the Western Colorado Mountaineers in the final game of 2019 in Brownson Arena in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
The Mavericks led 13-8 with 13:42 to play in the first half before hitting a cold spell scoring. They went the next 10:03 without scoring until a layup by
Ethan Menzies at the 3:39 mark and trailed 28-24 at the break.
Colorado Mesa outscored the Mountaineers 47-21 in the second half and shot 63 percent from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Four Mavericks finished the game in double figures led by
Jared Small's 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field.
Kolton Peterson had 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the three point line while
Georgie Dancer had 11 points and
Clay Verk added 10 points.
Tommy Nuno had a stat stuffer line in nearly 27 minutes of action. He finished with eight points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
Colorado Mesa is now 8-3 on the season and 4-1 in conference action while Western Colorado is now 5-6 and 2-3 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will be back on the floor on January 3-4 when they travel to South Dakota to take on Black Hills State Yellow Jackets and South Dakota Mines Hardrockers.
