COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After dominating the A3 Performance Invitational last weekend, the Colorado Mesa University Swimming & Diving teams had three members receive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Jolynn Harris was named as the RMAC Women's Diver of the Week for the second time this season, while sophomore
Noah Macomber received the men's award, also for the second time this year. Meanwhile, sophomore
Jackson Wuthrich was named as the Men's Swimmer of Week for the first time in his career after a break-out meet.
Wuthrich, a native of Greeley, Colorado, was named as the Men's Swimmer of the Meet on Saturday after winning three events with RMAC-leading and NCAA provisional qualifying times while scoring a meet-high 73 team points to lead the Maverick men to their ninth team title in the 10-year history of the meet in dominating fashion. He won the 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle events on consecutive days and finished sixth in the 1,650 free. His altitude-adjusted time of 9:21.45 in the 1,000 leads the nation. His 1:38.62 (200), 4:28.54 (500) and 9:21.45 (1000) times were also personal-bests and rank him fifth (500) and eighth (200) nationally. He also swam the lead-off leg on CMU's winning 800 free relay team and had six total NCAA qualifying swims throughout the meet.
Harris, a native of Des Moines, Iowa set her first four NCAA qualifying scores as a Maverick, won two events and broke the 6-dive school and meet record on the 1-meter board to help lead the Mavericks to a dominating win at the A3 Performance Invitational. She set scores of 451.10 and 405.05 points in the finals and preliminaries of the 1-meter on Friday to win that event and surpass the NCAA 11-dive qualifying score of 390 points. She then set a meet and school-record score of 277.00 points on six dives in Saturday's 1-meter diving exhibition event.
Last Thursday, Harris tallied 435.70 points in the 11-dive preliminaries to surpass the national qualifying standard of 420 points on the 3-meter. She then finished second in the finals with 397.45 points and contributed 37 team points towards CMU's record-setting total of 1,465 throughout the meet, equal to the most of any diver, male or female.
Macomber set NCAA qualifying scores in all four 11-dive opportunities, won an event and led all men's divers with 37 team points at the A3 Performance Invitational. On Friday, he won the 3-meter competition with 542.40 points after scoring 485 points in the preliminaries. He also took second behind reigning national champion teammate
Ammar Hassan in the 1-meter competition on Thursday. He scored 487.875 points in the prelims and 469.80 points in the finals.
The Mavericks have now combined to win an impressive 17 RMAC Athlete of the Week honors this season.
They are now off from competition until Jan. 10 and 11, 2020 when they will host Mines and the Dixie State women in a 2-day meet.
