Mavs Net Four Goals in Win over Hardrockers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. –  Balanced scoring and solid defense led the Mavericks to their sixth shutout of the season after defeating South Dakota School of Mines 4-0 Friday evening at Walker Field.

 The Maverick defense limited the Hardrockers to just three shots and two shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Brendan Brown saved both shots to keep the Hardrockers scoreless.

 Aaron Martinez was the first Mav to score in the 29th minute of the match which was his second goal of the season.

 After the opening goal, the Mavericks drowned the Hardrockers in the second half recording three consecutive goals. Lawan Abary drew a foul in the box during the 63rd minute that resulted in a penalty kick. He easily put one pasted the SDSM goalkeeper who recorded one save throughout the match.

The Mavericks are now 1-for-1 on penalty kicks this season. 

 Defender Matt Rhoads recorded his first career goal exactly two minutes later off a corner kick taken by Ethan Anderson who recorded his third assist of the season.

 The final Maverick goal was scored by Alec Fronapfel in the 81st minute of the game. The Freshmen from Fort Collins now has four goals on the season. Isa Trujillo was awarded the assists, which is the first of his career.

 Up Next

 The Mavericks will host conference leading Colorado School of Mines Sunday at 1:30 pm at Walker Field. The Orediggers lost to Fort Lewis Friday night in overtime, 2-1. They enter Sunday's match with a 8-1-2 conference record.
