HUDDLESTON, Va.— Freshman
Mazzy Jackson recorded another podium finish taking third amongst Division II athletes and sixth overall to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's triathlon team to a third place finish out of eight Division II teams at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon East Regional Qualifier on Saturday.
Jackson finished the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer draft legal bike and 5K run Smith Mountain Lake course in one hour, two minutes and 24 seconds after winning the Division II portion of last month's West Regional Qualifier in Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Meanwhile,
Hannah Croasdell and
Madison Batkiewicz finished together in 13
th and 14
th place of the Division II section with times of 1:07.30 and 1:07.33 as the Mavs tallied a team score of 30 points.
Davis & Elkins won the team title with 14 as Natalia Hidalgo Martinez claimed Division II victory in 1:00.53. Defending Division II champion Queens (N.C.) was second with 15 points as the Royals had four of the top eight finishers overall.
CMU's other finishers were
Maggie Simmons (16
th, 1:09.54) and
Savanna Liedy (19
th, 1:14.19).
Anna Lausch and
Abigail White dropped out of the event after the bike as they are recovering from injuries. White was with the leaders after the bike portion of the race.
Arizona State won the Division I race with seven points, 11 ahead of East Tennessee State. North Central won the Division III event with 11 points.
The Mavericks are slated to compete in the Southern Utah Triathlon next Saturday as they prepare for the Nov. 16 Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, Arizona.
