Nudo, Dubots Lead Mavericks to Win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's basketball team rebounded in grand fashion on Saturday evening with a 79-59 win over Westminster in fron of 1,201 crazed fans Brownson Arena.
 
The Mavericks had their worst loss of the season on Friday against Dixie State falling 86-61 but came back to win their third 20 or more-point victory with the win over Westminster. The win gives them their eighth conference victory of the season, one more than they had a year ago.
 
For the second straight night, newcomer Kenzo Nudo led all scorers but tonight he had a career-high 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. The Arizona native had three straight buckets on three straight possessions from the 9:14 mark to the 8:30 mark of the second half.
 
Nudo finished with 48 points on the weekend including seven made three-point baskets.
 
Teammate Damon Dubots recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. The raucous fans in attendance leapt to their feet with 16:13 to go in the second half, Dubots took a backwards bounce pass from Brandon Hoffer and slammed it home with two hands to put Colorado Mesa up 49-31.
 
Brandon Hoffer finished with 10 points, five assists and two steals.
 
The Mavericks shot 53.4 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from three while limiting Westminster to 38.9 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from three.
 
Colorado Mesa improved to 13-6 overall on the season and 8-5 in the RMAC while the Griffins fell to 7-10 on the year.
 
The Mavericks will be back home on Friday against the Regis Rangers at a special time of 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
