PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team competed in their first two duals of the season. The two duals came with mixed results against opponents from the MIAA.
In dual formats this year, the winner of two out of three doubles matches earns just one point in the dual score.
In the morning match, Colorado Mesa fell 6-1 to former Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Nebraska-Kearney. The Mavericks lone point of the dual came at No. 2 singles from
Emily Beckley.
Beckley defeated Zhanei Turarbek 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 for the three-set win. She also teamed with
Kristen Kirby at No. 1 doubles to win the bout 8-4 but the Lopers won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for the dual point.
The Mavericks bounced back with a 7-0 win over Fort Hays State in the afternoon match to go 1-1 on the day.
Colorado Mesa won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the doubles point and move ahead 1-0.
Georgia Hansen and Maike Waldenburger won an 8-4 decision at No. 2 doubles while
Taylor Hershey and
Rebecca Osterberg earned a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles.
Kirby, Beckley, and Osterberg won at No. 1, 2, 3 singles all in straight sets to clinch the match. Hansen picked up a three-set win at No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 with
Carolena Campos and
Kylie Simons earned straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
The Maverick will close out the Pueblo Duals tomorrow with matches against Newman and Texas-Permian Basin.
