The Mavericks conclude their three week road trip this week with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod weekend at Darden Field in Golden. The Mavericks will open the weekend with a pair of games against Colorado Christian and conclude it with two games against Colorado School of Mines.
The Mavericks took three of four games from Colorado Christian in the first week of the conference season and have yet to play the Orediggers this year. This will be a crucial matchup between the two teams as they are currently tied in the RMAC standings atop the leaderboard. The two teams will play a four game series in three weeks.
LAST WEEKEND
The Mavericks hit a minor road block last weekend in New Mexico. Colorado Mesa split four games with the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys. The Mavericks batted .331 while Highlands hit just .252 in the series. The Cowboys scored 10 of their 16 runs in the series in two innings. The pitching staff had a 4.70 ERA but allowed 15 walks in 30.2 innings of work.
HISTORY WITH MINES AND CCU
Colorado Mesa took three of four games from Colorado Christian earlier this season and own a 75-7 all-time mark against the Cougars. The Mavericks also own a 139-21 all-time mark against the Orediggers although the series has been close over the last four years. Mines has been on the doorstep of cracking the NCAA South Central Regional over the last three years.

Hunter Douglas has really settled into his role as the leadoff batter in the Mavericks lineup. The Lubbock, Texas native leads the Mavericks in batting average at .406 and on-base percentage at .506. As the leadoff batter, in any inning, he reaches at a 62 percent clip.
MAVS IN THE MINORS
Colorado Mesa has a pair of baseball players that will be playing in their first full season in the minor leagues which begins this week.
Tyler Day, drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays, will begin play in the Midwest League for the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Bligh Madris, drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, had a tremendous spring training and skipped a whole level of the minor leagues and will begin in Class A Advanced or High A. He will debut with the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League.

During the UCCS series, head coach
Chris Hanks won his 800th game as the skipper of Colorado Mesa University. Hanks' first win came on February 11, 1999, a 9-6 win over Division I Southern Utah in St. George, Utah.
ROAD WARRIORS
Colorado Mesa has played 21 of their first 29 games away from Suplizio Field (including two neutral site games). They are 13-8 in those games and have 12 of their final 16 games at home.

The Mavericks set a program record a year ago by going 50-12 during the 2017 campaign. The 50 wins was a program first and ending up leading the nation in wins. The 50th win may not have come against a grander opponent in top ranked Delta State in the NCAA Division II World Series.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Mavericks moved back two spots to No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Coach's Poll afte the weekend split with Highlands. They also moved back four spots to No. 8 in the Perfect Game poll and held at No. 7 in the NCBWA National poll.

Chris Hanks enters his 20th season guiding the Mavericks and has an impressive 804-333 record, most in program history. In 2017, he guided the Mavericks to their third NCAA Division II World Series and their ninth straight NCAA Tournament. The feat earned him ABCA South Central Region Coach of the year, an honor he has earned three times now.

Colorado Mesa will host Regis for a four-game series in a crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown next weekend. It will be the first time the Mavericks will be at home in a month. Their last home game was on March 11, an 8-4 win over UCCS.
