Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – No. 12 Colorado Mesa completed the Saturday sweep of the Adams State Grizzlies at Suplizio Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
In game one,
Reagan Todd and
AJ Landis limited the Grizzlies to just four hits in the game and led the Mavericks to a 8-1 win.
Todd (4-1) got the start on the mound and allowed one run (zero earned) on three hits, walked four and struck out seven in six innings of work. The junior retired the first six batters of the game in order and worked out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam without allowing a run in his last inning of work.
Closer
AJ Landis came on in relief to throw the final inning of the game, allowing just one hit and a strikeout in the seventh inning.
Garrett Ball led five Mavericks with multiple hits in the game. The senior finished 3-for-4 with a run and two runs driven in. He hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning, a two-run shot that gave the Mavericks a 4-1 lead.
Freshman
Caleb Farmer finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs driven in. Farmer hit his fourth home run of the season in the Mavericks four-run sixth innings.
In the night cap,
Chris Ramirez pitched a complete game shutout in the Mavericks 10-0 win over the Grizzlies.
Ramirez (4-2) allowed just six hits, walked no one and struck out six in his six innings of work.
Despite scoring 10 runs and pounding out 14 hits, the Mavericks had just two exra-base hits in the game.
Freshman
Jordan Stubbings hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the win. Stubbings, pinch-hitting in the bottom of the sixth, lifted an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run homer to give Colorado Mesa a 9-0 advantage.
Leadoff man
Hunter Douglas went 3-for-3 and raised his team-leading batting average to .445 on the season.
Zach McLeod was the only other Mavericks with multiple hits in the game.
Colorado Mesa improved to 28-12 on the season and 19-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Adams State drops to 1-40 on the year,
The Mavericks received some help in the RMAC standings as Mines fell to Colorado Christian in their second game of the four game series. Colorado Mesa now sits a half game behind the Orediggers for the top spot in the RMAC. Mines and Colorado Christian will play a doubleheader tomorrow to conclude the series.
Colorado Mesa and Adams state will conclude their series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game beginng at Noon.
