Colorado Mesa University was closing their two-game home stretch Thursday night with a game against Maryville University (MU). After a slow start for the Mavericks, they were able to kick it into gear in the second and third quarters to go on to win the match 11-5.

CMU and MU alternated the first six goals scored to be tied 3-3 with 3:40 left in the first quarter. The Mavericks were then able to score the next seven goals over the course of a quarter and a half to push their lead to 10-3.

MU would close out the game scoring two of the final three goals to close the gap to six when the final whistle blew.

The Mavericks were able to outshoot MU 34-28 on the night, including 21-11 in the first half alone. Both teams finished with 43 ground balls on the day, due in large part to the number of turnovers committed by both teams.

There were 52 total turnovers committed on the night, with CMU finishing with 23. Both teams were tied with 10 turnovers a piece in the third quarter.

Jack Griffin was the leader for CMU on the night, finishing with seven points (four goals and three assists). Griffin was followed by Ketcham on the score sheet, who finished with four points on the night (three goals and one assist). Four other Mavericks were able to get their names on the score sheet as well.

Christian Cherry and
Jack Beran split goalie duties for the game, with Cherry getting his second win of the season. Cherry finished with one save on the night and three goals allowed. Beran had six saves to go along with two goals allowed.

With the win CMU remains perfect to start the season (5-0). The team will now travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on No. 3 University of Tampa. This is the second time this season the Mavericks will be taking on the third ranked team in the nation. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
