ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Colorado Mesa University Beach Volleyball squad recorded their second all-time victory over an NCAA Division I opponent as the Mavericks blanked Abilene Christian University, 5-0 before falling by the same score to Arizona State for the second straight day on Saturday here at the University of New Mexico's Lucky 66 Bowl.
Â
The Mavericks, who moved to 3-11 overall, won four of the five matches against the Wildcats in straight sets as they snapped a 7-overall match slide with the victory, their first Division I triumph since Mar. 19, 2016 when they beat New Mexico State, experimenting with the possibility of adding an official beach volleyball program at the time, by a 4-1 score here at the same venue. The Colorado Mesa University Beach Volleyball squad recorded their second all-time victory over an NCAA Division I opponent as the Mavericks blanked Abilene Christian University, 5-0 before falling by the same score to Arizona State
Â
Katie Scherr and
Taylor Woods picked up the win over ACU's Jacey Smith and Kendall Boss by 21-15 and 21-19 scores in the top flight to record their team-leading fifth win of the season.
Â
Meanwhile,
Hana Peterman and
Megan Gianinetti claimed a 3-set, (21-15, 19-21, 15-8) win at No. 2 to snap a 6-match slide.
Â
Samantha Ritter and
Kasie Gilfert comfortably won 21-13, 21-16 at No. 3 while

Hailey Crane claimed a 21-14, 21-12 victory in the No. 4 position.
Â
Natalee Todd and
Ara Norwood were the most dominant as they defeated Paris Cosley and Sofia Resendiz, 21-14, 21-12 in the No. 5 match.
Â
Against Arizona State, the Mavericks made one change to their lineup from the ACU match and from Friday as Dixon and Crane moved up to the No. 3 match in place of Ritter and Gilfert, who fell just shy of a second set win before falling 21-10, 22-20 to the Sun Devils' duo of Katie Cross and Cierra Flood.
Â
Kassidy Day and
Ashton Reese also played a pair of exhibition matches throughout the day. They won the first set of their tilt against Lillian Drever and Marybeth Sandercox of Abilene Christian, 21-19 before falling 21-11 and 15-13 in the second and third sets.Â
Â
The Mavericks will be in action next weekend as they compete at the University of Arizona's Wildcat Spring Challenge where they will face three nationally-ranked foes, including the hosts, while playing Arizona State for the third time in eight days on Friday after opening the weekend against No. 17 Stetson.
