PUEBLO, Colo. – The No. 5 Colorado Mesa baseball team had its win streak halted at eight games following an 11-7 loss on Sunday to CSU-Pueblo at Rawlings Field in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game.
The loss also snaps a 10-game win streak for Colorado Mesa against CSU-Pueblo that dated back to the 2016 season.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a
Caleb Farmer RBI double down the right field line that scored
Hunter Douglas from second.
CSU-Pueblo then scored four unanswered runs and the Mavericks couldn't regain the lead.
They would go on to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull within 5-4 but the ThunderWolves countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-4.
Farmer finished the game 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs driven in and a run scored. The freshman added a pair of walks.
Dominic DeMarco had his best day at the plate as a Maverick. The junior went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in. His double in the fifth inning scored both
Keenan Eaton and
Jordan Stubbings.
On the mound, Colorado Mesa had control problems and when they found control, the ThunderWolves made the most of the pitches and produced quality hits.
Jake Mielock took the loss allowing four runs on three hits, walked four and struck out two in just 2.2 inning pitched.
Colorado Mesa falls to 19-6 on the season and 10-2 in the conference while CSU-Pueblo moves to 15-14 on the year, 7-9 in the RMAC.
The Mavericks will be back out on the road next weekend as they travel to New Mexico Highlands for a four-game series.
