Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis dropped a pair of matches on Friday against Lone Star Conference opponents at City Park.
The Mavericks opened the day by falling to Angelo State 7-2 in extremely gusty conditions.
Kristen Kirby and
Taylor Hershey scored the first point for the Mavericks by taking No. doubles 8-4 over Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo 8-4. The Rambelle duo entered the match ranked 41
st in the most recent ITA College Rankings.
Emily Beckley and
Rebecca Osterberg defeated Zoe Gubbels and Lucie Maitrot 9-8 (7-5) at No. 2 doubles for the other point for Colorado Mesa.
The Mavericks were swept in the singles matches.
Georgia Hansen fell at No. 6 singles in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 to Angelo's Maitrot.
The conditions didn't improve much in the evening match but Colorado Mesa continued to play. They ended up falling to No. 21 Midwestern State 8-1.
Newcomer
Kylie Simons picked up the lone point for the Mavericks at No. 6 singles defeating Maddie Rowe 6-1, 6-4. Simons subbed in and moved everyone up in the lineup to replace
Rebecca Osterberg at No. 3 singles.
Taylor Hershey fell in a close match at No. 3 singles to Mustang Ashley Ramirez. Hershey forced a first set tiebreak before falling 7-2 in the tiebreak.
The Mavericks will close out the weekend tomorrow with a conference matchup with CSU-Pueblo at 10am.
