Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The No. 6 Colorado Mesa baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Colorado Christian Cougars on the opening day of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
In the opener, it took extra innings but the Mavericks prevailed with a 16-14 extra inning victory over the Cougars. CCU outhit Colorado Mesa 21-17 but committed six costly errors.
Senior shortstop
Zach McLeod continued his hot hitting going 4-for-5 with a home run and two runs driven in. The home run was the first of the season.
Nick Borowski added three hits including two doubles while
Reagan Todd belted his fourth home run of the season.
JJ Carr and
Keenan Eaton each hit home runs as well.
AJ Landis picked up the win in relief. The Las Vegas native allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits walked two and struck out two in two innings of work.
In the nightcap, darkness only let the two teams play five innings but it was enough as the Mavericks claimed a 22-5 win and the sweep of the day.
Reagan Todd earned the complete game win on the mound and improved to 2-0 on the season. Todd struck out six in his five innings of work.
The duo of freshman
Caleb Farmer and
Hunter Douglas supplied the offense. Farmer finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles and his first collegiate home run. He also scored four times and drove in four.
Douglas went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and six runs driven in. The Lubbock native scored three times as well.
The Mavericks are now 10-4 on the season and improved to 2-0 in RMAC play.
The two teams will conclude their four game series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
