SANTA MONICA, Calif.— The Colorado Mesa University were overmatched by two nationally ranked teams but won a match against Missouri State University in their third dual of the day at the Loyola Marymount University Invitational contested Saturday here at the Ocean Park Beach Courts.

The Mavericks who wrapped up their 10-match, 6-day swing through southern California with a 2-8 record were shutout by the meet hosts and #16
th ranked Lions before falling by the same 5-0 score to No. 2 UCLA.

The Mavericks then got a 26-24, 21-18 win from
Samantha Ritter and
Kasie Gilfert against Missouri State, which claimed three 4-1 wins over the Mavericks throughout the week.

Ritter and Gilfert were moved up to the No. 2 position for the first time this season after spending most of the week in the third pairing.

Hana Peterman and
Megan Gianinetti were in that spot against the Bears and claimed 21-18 opening set win before the Bears' duo of Mikaela Mosquera and Sam Brinkmann claimed the match with 21-14 and 15-5 second and third set wins.

Lindy Dixon and
Hailey Crane also nearly won the opening set at No. 5 against Lynsey Wright and Ivy Reynolds before succumbing, 23-21 and 21-15.

Earlier in the day,
Taylor Woods and
Katie Scherr fared best against LMU but fell 21-15, 21-8 to Savannah Slattery and McKayla Ferris at No. 1. Scherr and Woods led the Mavericks throughout the week, claiming four victories.

Natalee Todd and
Ara Norwood was CMU's best team against UCLA. They lost 21-13, 21-13 to Izzy Carey and Megan Muret in the No. 5 match of that dual.

The Mavericks will resume their season on Mar. 30 and 31 at the New Mexico Beach Tournament in Albuquerque.
