PHOENIX, Ariz. – Colorado Mesa women's tennis team traveled to the Valley of the Sun for the Firestorm Classic. The Mavericks took on a pair of quality opponents to open the tournament at the Paseo Racquet Club.
Colorado Mesa were swept by St. Edward's 9-0 to start the Firestorm Classic hosted by Arizona Christian.
Despite the sweep, the Mavericks had a pair of closely contested matches.
Kristen Kirby fell in two sets to Laura Galvan at No. 1 singles 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3) while
Carolena Campos fell in three sets to Isabela Young at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 4-6, 10-5.
In the afternoon match, 16
th-ranked Sonoma State blanked Colorado Mesa 9-0.
Rebecca Osterberg dropped a close decision to Clarisa Colling at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4.
The Mavericks are now 5-8 on the season.
Colorado Mesa will continue on in the Firestorm Classic tomorrow with matches scheduled against the host Arizona Christian and former RMAC foe Western New Mexico.
