GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team took on a conference opponent on Sunday when they hosted the MSU Denver Roadrunners at the Elliott Center. The Mavericks dropped a 7-2 matchup to the Roadrunners but had a couple of impressive victories.
After being swept 3-0 in the doubles matchups, the Mavericks would take a pair of wins in the singles matchups.
At No. 1 singles,
Kristen Kirby defeated Tabitha Porter in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. Porter entered the matchup ranked No. 6 nationally in singles after winning the South Central Region ITA Tournament in the fall. Kirby lost to Porter in the fall 6-2, 6-3.
Kirby is now 10-2 in singles matches this season.
Georgia Hansen picked up the Mavericks other victory at No. 6 singles. Hansen defeated Mackenzie Hotan of MSU Denver in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Hansen improved to 4-3 in singles matches this season.
Colorado Mesa will head to Arizona next weekend for five matches beginning with a regional contest against St. Edwards on Friday.
