Mavericks Complete Four-Game Sweep of Dixie State

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The fourth-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of 15th ranked Dixie State on Sunday afternoon with a 5-3 win at Suplizio Field.

The Mavericks got on the board in the second inning. Tanner Rempel hit an RBI double to center field that scored Keenan Eaton from first base. Later in the inning, the red hot Hunter Douglas hit a two run single to right center scoring Rempel and Dominic DeMarco giving CMU a 3-0 lead.

Dixie State answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 3-3.

Junior first baseman Will Dixon delivered in the bottom half of the inning. On a 3-2 pitch, Dixon belted a two-run homer to left field to give the Mavericks the lead for good.

Senior Taylor Prokopis earned the win in relief of starter Chris Ramirez. Prokopis (1-0) pitched two perfect innings and struck out two batters.

Prokopis along with three other relievers combined to throw five shutout innings and allowed just two hits, walked two, and struck out six.

AJ Landis earned his second save after retiring the final two batters of the game by strikeout.

Colorado Mesa improved to 6-2 on the season while the Trailblazers fell to 4-6 on the year.

The Mavericks will be on the road next weekend to take on sixth-ranked Cal Baptist in Riverside.
