ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team opened the 2018 spring season on the road with a pair of matches against Dixie State and Division I Southern Utah.
The Mavericks avenged a loss in the fall to the Trailblazers by picking up a 5-4 decision on Saturday.
Georgia Hansen clinched the match by winning 6-2, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2) in a third set tiebreak at No. 6 singles over Dixie State's Hattie Erekson.
Colorado Mesa won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead in the match.
Emily Beckley and
Rebecca Osterberg won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while
Nicole Kitsuse and
Georgia Hansen earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Kristen Kirby defeated Lacey Hancock at No. 1 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 while
Taylor Hershey won in three sets at No. 5.
Colorado Mesa played Division I Southern Utah in the afternoon and fell 7-0 to the Thunderbirds.
The Mavericks will return home and host MSU Denver on February 18 at the Elliott Tennis Center.
