Walker Field host Skyhawks for Mavericks Final Home Match

Guarneri and McGhee named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team

This weekend the Mavericks will host Fort Lewis and travel to Adams States for matches on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. This Thursday will be the Mavericks final home game of the regular season at Walker Field. The Mavericks will host the Skyhawk Thursday night (Oct 25) at 7 pm.  

This weekend will be the final matches of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic men's soccer regular season. The Mavericks enter the final matches of the regular season with an 8-1-3 conference record and have secured a spot in the RMAC Tournament. They currently sit in second behind RMAC foe Colorado School of Mines who has clinched the regular season title.

Regional Rankings

For the second week in a row the Mavericks were picked third in the NCAA Regional Rankings for the South Central Region. The rankings did not change much as MSU Texas and Colorado School of Mines were ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. This is the second poll of the season leading up to the NCAA selection show that will take place on Monday November 5.

The Mavericks were ranked No. 23 in the United State Soccer Coaches Association.

RMAC All-Academic

The RMAC released earlier this morning the All-Academic First Team and All-Academic Honor Roll. The release highlighted seven Maverick student-athletes, two of which were named to the All-Academic First Team.

Briley Guarneri and James McGhee were the Mavericks two student-athletes named to the RMAC All-Academic- First Team. Guarneri is an Exercise Science major and has a 3.841 cumulative gpa. His fellow senior McGhee who is a Business Finance major has a 3.953 gpa. This is the Guarneri's third consecutive year being named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team. In 2016 he was named the RMAC Academic Player of the Year. This is McGhee's first year being named to the RMAC All-Academic First Team.

The RMAC named five other Mavericks to the RMAC All- Acaedmic Honor Roll including Daniel Bricker, Ross Elliot, Matthew Miller, Maxwell Salomon, and Niall Shaffery. To be named to this list the student-athletes must have above a 3.3 gpa and have played in a match, 

Fort Lewis and Adams State

The Skyhawks are currently 7-6-2 overall and 5-6-1 in the RMAC. Earlier in the season these two team met for each of their RMAC season openers. The Mavericks and the Skyhawks tied 3-3. Lawan Abary netted two goals and Kevin Del Mazo completed a penalty kick. The only other ranked opponent the Skyhawks have played was No. 5 Colorado School of Mines. They were defeated 1-3.

Grizzlies have yet to find a win this season going 0-14-2 overall and 0-10-2 in the RMAC. The Mavericks are undefeated against the Grizzlies going 12-0-2. They have defeated them the past ten times allowing only 3 goals.
