Rangers Offense too much for Mavericks

After ending their four-game losing streak on Friday night against Chadron State, the Mavericks were hoping to create a win streak on Saturday against Regis University (RU). Unfortunately, the Rangers offense was clicking all night long as they rolled to a 103-82 victory over the Mavericks.

The first half was a problem for Colorado Mesa University. RU finished the half shooting 57 percent from the field and 42 percent from the three-point line, which allowed them to take a 20-point lead into the half (56-36). Two players for the Rangers had double digit points in the first half alone.

Connor Nichols and Emilio Acedo tried to carry the Mavericks offensively in the half, combining for 25 of the Mavericks 36 points. The rest of the team however shot only 5-17 from the field in the half and were limited to only 11 points.

In the second half, the Mavericks were able to cut the lead down to eight, but were unable to claw any closer despite going toe to toe offensively against RU in the half. The 103 points is the most points CMU has given up all season.

Nichols finished with a career high 30 points on the night on 12-20 shooting from the field. CJ Davis, Brandon Hoffer and Acedo all finished in double figures for CMU as well.

The Rangers finished the night shooting 56 percent from the field, led by Jarrett Brodbeck who put up 35 points on the night.

With the loss CMU moves to 7-8 overall on the year and 3-6 in the RMAC. In the final weekend before classes get back under way, the Mavericks will be at home for two games against Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian.
