After falling to Metro State University on Friday night, the Mavericks were looking to rebound on Saturday against the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs (UCCS). However, for the second straight game Colorado Mesa University would struggle shooting the ball from distance, which led to their 90-68 defeat to the Mountain Lions.
Â
Thanks to almost 60 percent shooting from the field in the half, the Mountain Lions were able to go into the halftime locker room with a 16-point lead (40-24).
Emilio Acedo and
Connor Nichols were the lone offensive weapons for the Mavericks. They combined to shoot 10-16 from the field for 21 of the team's 28 points. However, the rest of the team finished the half 3-13 for seven points.
Â
In the second half, the Mavericks offense picked up, allowing them to put up 40 points in the half.
CJ Davis came alive scoring 11 points on 4-7 shooting. However, their defense was unable to slow down UCCS. They once again shot 59 percent from the field and 55 percent from distance in the half to win the period 50-40.
Â
As a team the Mavericks finished the game shooting 4-19 from behind the arc, which is good enough for 21 percent. They also finished with a season low five assists as a team on the night.
Â
Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions finished the game shooting 59 percent from the field, 59 percent from the three-point line and had 13 assists. They had five players score in double figures, led by Elijah Ross who had 22 points to go along with eight assists.
Â
Acedo finished as the leading scorer for CMU, with 22. Nichols, Davis and
Damon Dubots also finished in double figure points on the night.

CMU moves to 8-11 overall on the year and 4-9 in the RMAC after the weekend. They will look to end their two-game skid at home where they will play Black Hills State and South Dakota School of Mines in their next two games.
