GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The nationally-ranked Colorado Mesa University swimming and diving teams will begin the second half of the season and 2018 with their final home meet of the season, hosting Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Colorado School of Mines in a 2-day dual meet this week in the El Pomar Natatorium.
Action will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. on Friday.
Live results can be seen throughout the meet by clicking here.
A video stream (natural sound only) of the swimming portion of the meet will also be available here.
A total of 34 swimming events (17 men's and 17 women's) will be contested over the two days (schedule below). The Maverick divers will also compete in a total of eight exhibition events, held concurrently with the swimming events, which will not be part of the team scores. However, the divers will be gunning for NCAA Qualification marks.
The Maverick men currently reside in the No. 6 spot of the latest (Dec. 19) TYR Top 25 Division II Poll, conducted by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. That is their highest ranking in school history.
CMU's women are also enjoying a program-best No. 10 (tie) ranking.
Both Maverick swimming squads have been off from competition for a month after dominating the Nov. 30-Dec. 2. A3 Performance/CMU Invite, which helped propel them to the lofty rankings. A contingent of divers did compete at the Lancer Invite in Riverside, Calif. on Dec. 15 and 16.
At the A3, which also included Mines, the Maverick men won 20 of the 22 events en-route to a meet-record 1,553 points. They defeated the second-place Orediggers by a meet-record 766 points, in what was pretty much a dual meet as the CMU Club Team was the only other men's squad at the meet.
The Maverick women won nine events and used their superior depth to score a meet-record 1,340 points. Mines was second amongst the eight women's teams with 729.
This week's meet will be the final RMAC dual of the season for both Maverick squads, who wrap up the regular season later this month with a Jan. 19 dual at Division I Denver followed by the Jan. 20-21 Colorado College Classic. They will then turn their attention to the Feb. 14-17 RMAC Championships in Lewisville, Texas and the Mar. 13-17 NCAA Division II National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
CMU's women are a perfect 5-0 against RMAC foes in dual meets thus far, defeating Mines 191-46 on Oct. 21 at the Air Force Duals.
The Maverick men defeated Mines 184-56 in their only previous RMAC dual this season at that same meet.
The Mines men are 1-2 (0-1 RMAC) in duals this season while the Oredigger women are 3-2 (2-1 RMAC).
