Mavs sweep RMAC Weekly honors

Bernot, Giraudeau, Hermanson, Hurley all claim awards after impressive season-debuts

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After a strong opening weekend at the two Intermountain Shootout meets, the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, which were announced Thursday by conference officials.

Wyatt Hermanson and Jenna Hurley claimed the Diver of the Week honors while Titouan Bernot and Melina Giraudeau claimed the swimming awards.

On Friday, the Mavericks swept the team wins as the women's squad took first out of six teams, finishing ahead of Division I foes BYU, Utah and Utah Tech as well as well as RMAC foes Adams State and Western Colorado.  Meanwhile, the men took first out of four teams, getting past BYU, Utah and Adams State.

In Saturday's meet, which was scored separately, the Mavericks took second with only BYU finishing ahead of the Mavs.

Bernot, a Maverick newcomer out of Nancy, France, who won the NAIA National Championship for the University of Cumberlands (Ky.) last season, recorded five NCAA Division II Championship "B" Cut times and leads the country in four events while ranking second in two others.

On Friday, he won the 200 free in an altitude-adjusted time of 1:35.69.  He then won the 500 free in Saturday's meet with a converted time of 4:23.97.  He leads the country in both of those events and also helped the Mavs set the nation's fastest times of the young season in the 400 medley relay (3:14.70) and 400 free relay (2:55.80).

Giraudeau, who also hails from France (Biarritz), also had an impressive weekend to the 2026-27 campaign after finishing as the national runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke last year.  She won that event on Saturday with a NCAA Division II-leading time of 2:14.19 (altitude-adjusted)  after taking first in the 100 breast on Friday with a NCAA-leading time of 1:02.87 (converted).

She also leads the country in the 400 IM at 4:23.09 (converted) and helped the Mavs set the fastest times in both the 400 Medley (3:44.93) and 200 Medley (1:43.27) relays.

Hermanson, a fifth-year diver out of Mandan, North Dakota, returned from injury that kept him out of the second half of the 2025-26 season with a strong opening weekend.

The RMAC Diver of the Week is the third of his career, which has also seen him win two second team all-America honors in 2023 and a RMAC 1-meter championship in 2025.

On Friday, he took sixth in a field of 12 divers during the Friday's 1-meter event, recording 243.25 points on six dives to finish ahead of three BYU divers.  He then took fifth to lead the Mavericks in Saturday's 3-meter event with a score of 243.25 points, again finishing ahead of three BYU divers.

Hermanson's 3-meter score is the best in the RMAC this season and ranks him sixth nationally, according to Swimcloud.  He ranks ninth in the country on the 1-meter.

Hurley, a senior from Southlake, Texas, has now won seven RMAC Diver of the Week honors throughout her career.

She finished third in a field of 14 divers and ahead of six NCAA Division I opponents in Friday's 3-meter event, scoring 235.55 points over six dives.  She then took fourth in a field of 15 during Saturday's 1-meter event with 227.05 points, again defeating six Division I divers.

Both of her scores are the best in the RMAC and rank fourth (3m) and sixth (1m) in Division II this year, according to Swimcloud.

The Mavericks are off competition this weekend but will return to action on the road next weekend.  The CMU men will take on the Colorado School of Mines in a RMAC dual next Friday (Oct. 16) in Golden while the Maverick women will compete in a triangular at Colorado State and against Washington State in Fort Collins next Saturday (Oct. 17).
