Long Range Shots Key in Maverick Defeat

The Mavericks were looking for some payback as they traveled down to Denver to take on Metro State University (MSU) for the second time this season. After the Roadrunners were able to beat Colorado Mesa University 81-78 on their home floor, it was the Mavericks who hoped to put a damper on MSU's season. However, the Roadrunners wouldn't let that happen as they defeated the Mavericks convincingly 80-60 on Friday night.

It was a rough first half both offensively and defensively for the Mavericks. They were only able to score 24 points in the half, but they gave up 41 points to the Roadrunners. This came in large part to MSU hitting nine first half three-point shots and going 8-11 from the free throw line. Meanwhile, CMU was only 3-7 from deep and only got to the line for two attempts.

The Mavericks played the second half much closer than the first, but it was still the Roadrunners who finished with more points in the half (39-36) to help seal the 20-point victory.

As a team the Mavericks shot only 28 percent from the three-point line, going 4-14 for the night. The team also finished with only 12 assists, which is seven fewer than their season average.

As for the Roadrunners, they shot a remarkable 57 percent from deep going 15-26 on the night. They finished with three players in double digits, led by Peter Moller who had 19 on the night.

CMU finished with four players in double figures, led by Damon Dubots with 14. Emilio Acedo added another 12 and Connor Nichols had 11 for the starters. Filip Nowicki got in significant minuts of the bench and produced. In 20 minutes he put up 10 points and six rebounds for CMU.

With the loss the Mavericks move to 8-10 overall on the year and 4-8 in the RMAC. They have one more game this weekend against UCCS tomorrow night in Colorado Springs, Colo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
