PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's tennis team matched what they did on the first day of the season with a split of Texas-Permian Basin and Newman on Saturday (Sept. 16).
In the match against Texas-Permian Basin, the Mavericks won two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches on their way to a 6-3 win over the Falcons.
The duo of
Kristen Kirby and
Emily Beckley won at No. 1 doubles 8-3 as did the duo of
Nicole Kitsuse and
Georgia Hansen at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
Kirby cruised to a straight set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 while her double partner
Emily Beckley picked up a come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles, winning 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.
Rebecca Osterberg won at No. 3 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 and
Taylor Hershey picked up a win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 7-5.
In their final match of the weekend, the Mavericks fell to Newman 6-3 to close out the weekend with a 2-2 record.
Kirby and Beckley continued their great start at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win over the Litvinova and Gerasimova doubles team.
The sophomore Kirby earned the win at No. 1 singles as well, winning 6-3, 6-1 over de Rijk.
Osterberg was the only other winner for the Mavericks at No. 3 singles. The sophomore picked up a 7-5, 7-6 (2) straight set win over Gerasimova.
The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend at the Air Force Tournament.
